Photo Story Friday: Cellphone Break

Cellphone Break

I couldn’t remember exactly what I was doing in Greenhills at the time. All I remember was when I went out of the mall, I saw these ladies (probably nurses) having their break. There was nothing particularly interesting about them, that is until they all lined up with their backs on the wall, took their cellphones out and started texting, as if somebody told them to do just that. I also took out my cellphone, not to text, but to take the shot above.

Do you have pictures of people doing quirky things? Email them to cedric @ galapinoyredux.com along with your short back story, and I just might publish it on the next edition of Photo Story Friday!

Sometimes, all it takes for you to get a good photograph is to use a less technical camera and pray for the best. I shot this photo from the hip last August at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2. I looked at the photo afterwards and was pretty pleased by the result. What camera did I use? My Android cellphone.

How about you, do you have cellphone shots that you like? Email your photo and tell us why you love it to cedric @ galapinoyredux.com. Who knows, your photo might be the next to be featured on Photo Story Friday!

Travel Wednesday – Samar Trip Day 4: Seeing Guiuan with New Eyes

View from Calicoan Island

“Okay, Guiuan, what do you have in store for me this time?” I asked myself as I woke up to the sound of waves at the ABC beach in Guiuan’s Calicoan Island.

It’s my first time to be in Calicoan, but I’ve been to Guiuan so many that I couldn’t possibly come up with creative stuff to write about it.

It was great then that an old friend, Ms. Janet Israel, was our tour guide for that day. And while I try as much as I can from packaged tours and tour guides for most of my trips, this one was a welcome exception. It was probably because I knew our guide, or maybe because I needed to write down as many the facts and details I could for the article I was going to write once the trip is over.

Photo Story Friday: Still a Babe to be Wed

Still a Babe to be Wed

Okay, here’s an interesting photo taken by John Nacion during this year’s Pride March in New York. And according to John, it was a landmark parade, “following the legalization of same-sex marriage in the big apple. It was also my son’s first to see it, he just turned 8.”

But what’s even more interesting is the message she’s carrying. Do you agree with her or not? :D

You may find his original work here.

Lulugayan Falls

I took up journalism in college, without the intention of working for a magazine or a newspaper. I simply wanted to write. So I put away most of the stuff I learned there in my mental locker and pull them out later on when I needed them. Like how to write a lead paragraph, spelling out numbers one to nine, yada yada yada.

But the trip to Samar was like a refresher course on my journ 101 and featuring writing days. I had to dig into whatever stuff I could still remember and put them to use again. And most of the digging happened when on our trip to the Lulugayan Falls.

Why am I telling you these things?
