Photo Story Friday: Cellphone Break

Cellphone Break

I couldn’t remember exactly what I was doing in Greenhills at the time. All I remember was when I went out of the mall, I saw these ladies (probably nurses) having their break. There was nothing particularly interesting about them, that is until they all lined up with their backs on the wall, took their cellphones out and started texting, as if somebody told them to do just that. I also took out my cellphone, not to text, but to take the shot above.

Do you have pictures of people doing quirky things? Email them to cedric @ galapinoyredux.com along with your short back story, and I just might publish it on the next edition of Photo Story Friday!

Photo Story Friday: Alley

Alley

I’ve been to Ortigas so many times, and I’m all too familiar with most of these streets. Which is why I also like exploring the back alleys whenever I can and see what I can discover.

It’s the second time I’ve been to this particular alley. I’m always drawn towards abandoned buildings and this alley had a row of these. Some used to be food stalls, while others were probably internet cafes. But I was particularly drawn to these two buildings because they are colorful, although the paint’s almost faded. It was only during my second time there, however, when everything fell into place, the wet streets that added to the gloom of the scene, and a lady with a purple umbrella to add a bit more color. I snapped a few shots and this is the one that worked.

Photo Story Friday: Rainy Grainy

Rainy Grainy

It was a gloomy day. The overcast skies loomed over the Ortigas district, and I didn’t bring an umbrella with me. When the rain finally let up, I decided to go out on the streets again and take photos. Then I saw this guy in a hoodie. He had no umbrella unlike everybody else, so I snapped his photo.

I later realized that it was a little out of focus, making the shot a bit soft. I converted it to black and white, added a bit more grain to it, and increased the contrast to make the photo softer and much gloomier. Here’s the result.

The Cold Treatment

Looks like this guy doesn’t like chicken. This chicken at least. Greenhills, San Juan, Philippines. July 2011.
