How to Shoot Fantastic-Looking Jump Shots

Posted by Cedric A. Solidon On January - 31 - 2011

Jump Shot 1

Taking jump shots is arguably one of those must-do things that’s in most Pinoy traveller’s list today. It’s fun to do, and it’s a lot more creative and dynamic than putting the Mayon Volcano or the Eiffel Tower on the palm of your hand (peace out to those who’ve done that, heehee).

But how do you shoot jump shots exactly? Do you really need an extra expensive camera to do that? While an advanced camera does help, you can do it too with a point and shoot camera as I’ll show you in the following paragraphs. So if you’re ready then here are my tips for shooting fantastic-looking jump shots after the, erm, jump:

Hot or Cold, Where Would You Rather Be?

Posted by Cedric A. Solidon On January - 27 - 2011

Discussion Thursdays: This is the time of the week where we talk about (or argue) if you want about travel-related topics.

As a kid growing up in a tropical country, I’ve always dreamt of going up north and seeing snow and playing with it. But I realized later on that I’m too allergic to cold temperatures, that my dream of seeing snow has eventually waned.

I don’t like being in front of electric fans or airconditioning units. I chill, then I freeze. I don’t like the feeling at all.

And it gets worse when you’re in the mall or when you’re riding in a provincial bus in the Philippines. Like the guys in charge of the A/C units are meaning to freeze you to death. That’s how it is for me.

So I’d rather live in this warm country, than have my teeth chattering in the cold.

How about you, would you rather live in a cold or a warm climate? Please share your thoughts below. :)

Photography Monday: What Do the Different Modes in Your Camera Do?

Posted by Cedric A. Solidon On January - 24 - 2011

Welcome again to Photography Monday! Today, we’re going to talk about the different shooting modes that you can use in your camera. These modes help you change your camera settings depending on the situation or the function of the camera that you want to focus on.

But first, where are these modes located? In DSLRs, interchangeable lens cameras, and some point and shoots they’re the top dial buttons at either left or right side of your camera. In other point and shoot, they are usually offered as options in the menu.

Still not sure how they look like? Here’s a photo taken of my Canon 7D’s mode dial:

Different camera manufacturers may have different shooting modes and call them different names, but there are 4 common ones that these manufacturers use. They are the manual, aperture priority, shutter priority and program modes. They all deal with how the shutter and aperture work together. Let’s talk about them in detail below.

Photo Friday: Kid at the Bacolod Cathedral

Posted by Cedric A. Solidon On January - 21 - 2011

Kid in Bacolod Cathedral

During our trip to Bacolod, we visited the Bacolod Cathedral in Bacolod, Negros Occidental. While taking the typical photos of the Cathedral’s facade, I saw this kid sitting at the display of the old church bells. Maybe he we was sleeping, contemplating, or something else, I couldn’t really tell.
