First, an excuse.

This post is a little late because it’s been over a month since Christmas. But then again, better late than pregnant, erm, than sorry. Besides, shouldn’t we spread the Christmas spirit to everyone every day?

With the excuses out of the way, let’s proceed.

About Marikina City’s Animated Christmas Display

Marikina City has its first animated Christmas display on December 2009. The display is reminiscent of the animated Christmas display at the now-closed COD mall in Cubao and the current one at Greenhills.

Like similar animated Christmas displays, the story revolves around the birth of Jesus Christ. But the similarities end there. That’s because the story’s being told by no less than current Marikina Mayor Marides Fernando–well at least her animatronic counterpart.

Having an animated mayor narrate the story was pretty weird at the beginning, but you get over it once the Christmas story begins.

A Dumbfounding Christmas Display

The set is placed on the second floor of the back portion of the Marikina City Hall. The lights, combined with the well-designed animated characters and set make for a very dumbfounding presentation. Plus, there’s a giant cloud around the middle of the set where an angel comes down to spread the news about Jesus’ birth. I imagine myself having my jaw drop to the floor at the sight of these great displays if I were a kid watching this.

At the end, the animated mayor also imparts a message of hope to all Marikenos who were struck by the flashfloods brought by Ondoy. She tells people to persevere as the Holy Family did in looking for a place to stay on the Christmas Eve.

The entire presentation lasts for about 30 minutes, playing several times from 7pm to around 8:30pm.

Food and Gift Stalls from Various Barangays

There are also food stalls from different barangays in Marikina where one would find a variety of food and gift items.

I hope they have this kind of presentation again next year and give little kids the same wonderful experience that their parents had when they were kids themselves.

Extras

Here are some other shots I’ve taken around the City Hall before and after the presentation.
